Boston art rock figureheads Pixies mark 40 years in the business with a reissue of their beloved B Sides compilation on 4AD. Originally issued during the band’s hiatus in the early aughts, Complete B Sides was initially tagged by the band’s original 1988-91 run. However, this anniversary edition adds a fresh remaster and several live bonus tracks from the 1997 reissue of the classic ‘Debaser’ single, thus the appended title. Treats aside, it's remarkable just how alien these tracks sound all these years later from such simple elements: rock music stripped roughshod until it resembles something dark, moody, and oddly erotic. Cinematic not in scope but in its flair for the volcanically dramatic.
